Lesson Plans
The Reading Guides will be given to the students each week. The reading guides are split up according to the three parts of the book: The Tributes, The Games, and The Victor.
Say Something Essays
Along with handing out the reading guides students will also get copies of Say Something rules will be attached to the back of the reading guides. Each week students are to pick 2 pages to read with their parents, sibling, or another family member. Once they have read the pages they are to turn to each other and ask the questions according to the rules. Once they have finished their conversation they are to write a short 3 to 4 paragraph essay about what they discussed and the parent, sibling, or other family member is to print their name, sign their name, and leave a phone number on the paper.

Each student will be given a blank vocabulary sheet to record any words that they get stuck on. The students will also be given the list of vocabulary words for each chapter, but they will have to fill in the definition unlike this vocabulary worksheet.
This is a Spinner that will be used in Day 2's vocabulary lesson and activity. The vocabulary list for chapter one will be given to each group/table to use. Everyone in the group will be given 2 chances to spin. After everyone has spun twice the class will come back together to talk about any tricky words that were left unknown.

Day 3: The class will name each district according to what they have learned from the book. They will then identify which district goes where on the map. This map will be kept as a poster in the classroom because it will be important for the students to be able to use it as a reference later on.
Day 3: Vocabulary Dice Game
This will be a quick vocabulary game for the class to do in groups/tables.
Vocabulary Rock and Roll is a great way for the students to brush up on a few of the words that were introduced in Chapters 2 and 3.

Day 8: Vocabulary Review Day
Vocabulary from the first 12 chapters will be used.
The rule is that whatever word is landed with the right thumb is the word that you must define.
Once you have defined the word you are to pass/lightly hit the beach ball to a peer.

Day 6: Review Day

- Write 9 questions that cover the topic you want to review.
- Make 5 copies of each question (so you'll have 64 sheets of paper).
- Give a few sheets of paper to each student.
- Ask students to crumble up each individual piece of paper into a ball.
- Tell students to throw the balls onto the floor, in the center of the room.
- Ask students to get out a sheet of paper and number from 1-9.
- Tell students to get up and start uncrumbling paper balls. They write the answer to the question they find on their sheet of paper. Then they crumble up the paper into a ball again and throw it back into the center.
- Repeat until they've found all 9 questions and answered them all.
- Collect their answers or go over the correct answers as you see fit.
- Put the garbage can in the center of the room and tell students to grab the balls of paper and shoot baskets with them into the garbage can.

Day 7: Reading from Suzanne Collins. The night before the class should have read Chapter 10. The class will be following along in their books while she is reading. The class will also be jotting down notes about words they are unfamiliar with. They will answer the following questions after the audio is finished:
Does having a character come alive through audio change how they see Katniss? Does this help you understand the scene of the games starting? What real life connection can you make to the cornucopia?
